Do you love scenic drives as much as we do? You will after experiencing the Willow City Loop. This popular drive pulls in motorists from miles around with its stunning vistas, and there are plenty of places to pull off and snap a photo.

As you make your way through the rolling hills and rugged canyons you’ll encounter beautiful scenery, old ranches and farms, and maybe even some local wildlife. However, the real highlight of the loop are the wildflowers. The vibrant colors bring the hills and meadows to life, and are especially stunning in the spring. Trust is, it’s worth going out of your way to see.

Badu Park is probably the best place to take a load off and just enjoy a day outdoors. Located right in the heart of town on the banks of the Llano River, it features plenty of open space and room for a picnic.

On hot summer days the Llano River offers an enticing way to cool off, and Badu Park has easy entryways into the water. For those with children too small for the river, there’s a refreshing splash pad that will put a smile on their face. Pair that with a playground, a pavilion, and peaceful walking trails and you have the perfect spot for a lazy summer afternoon.

This annual festival held in Llano is a celebration of Cajun culture with a Texas twist. Normally held in the spring, visitors are treated to live music, arts and crafts, several kid’s activities, and most importantly—the crawfish boil. Thousands of pounds of crawfish are cooked up and served with traditional sides for everyone in attendance.

The best part though? The whole thing benefits the local community. The price for each admission ticket goes straight to local charities and community projects, providing hope and opportunity for individuals throughout Llano. Possibly the most unique attraction on our list, the Llano Earth Art Fest is another annual event that celebrates creativity, community, and “earth art” along the banks of the Llano River. The acronym for the event spells LEAF—a fitting title for a celebration of nature.

Visitors to the LEAF can admire projects from local artists made entirely out of natural elements, such as sticks, dirt, rocks, etc. Vendors stationed at the event sell everything from clothes to handmade souvenirs, and there are several workshops and kid-friendly activities available as well. You don’t have to be a nature lover to enjoy the Llano Earth Art Fest, and we recommend you stop by for the unique experience it offers.

Last, but not least, is the charming town of Fredericksburg. We may be cheating a little with this one, as sightseeing in Fredericksburg has become a fairly popular attraction in recent years, but we felt it was still worth a mention.

Founded by German immigrants in 1846, Fredericksburg has retained much of its German culture, which you’ll experience through its architecture, cuisine, and festivals. There are numerous historical buildings that have been expertly preserved, as well as a bustling main street complete with shops, galleries, and restaurants. Be sure to check the
local calendar for any events that may be going on during your stay.
